1. How is Valentine's Day celebrated?

Valentine's Day gift

Valentine's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, including Argentina, Britain, Canada, France, Mexico, South Korea and the United States.

Traditionally, on Valentine's Day you show your love for another person by sending cards, gifts and messages of love. Couples give cards or presents to each other, but you can also send something anonymously to someone you secretly love.

Popular gifts include a box of chocolates, dinner for two and flowers, especially roses. Some people make personalised gifts like a framed photo or a playlist of songs, or they plan a special activity together.

Valentine's Day is also a popular day to either propose or get married. You'd never forget your wedding anniversary!

In my country valentine's day is very popular. Stores hold promotions on flowers, chocolates and jewelry. Cafes and bars hold theme parties.
I've been giving and receiving cards on this day since I was a kid. It was popular at school.
Now usually my husband and I order delicious food for the evening that day.

Hi everyone !
In Spain , we usually enjoy this especial date with our partners. It´s not necessary to be in love to give away a present to someone.
You can do it just to express your feelings, even to a friend, family or pets....
We are talking about love, and there´s love anywhere :)

In my country we celebrate Valentine's Day. For this day, the people usually go to a restaurant with a special person and give gifts between friends.
When I was at the university was very funny, you could see cupid around the campus giving kisses and hugs to everyone.

Hello, I'm a student from Vietnam. In my country, young people enjoy Valentine's Day a lots. It is a bit different from other country because it just for lovers. We often give the other chocolate, rose, card or anything they like. But now I'm still alone so Valentine's Day is not important to me:)))

Hello! In Argentina, not everyone celebrates Valentine's day. Although new generations use it just as an excuse to spend a day or give a present or dinner to their partners. Older people usually think of it as a foreign celebration.
At the moment, nobody has given me any presents for Valentine's day yet. I really hope that can change this year!

Hello everyone, In Colombia, we do not celebrate Valentine's Day. We have a similar day in September called the day of Love and Friendship in which couples bring each other gifts and usually go out to dinner or the movies. Among friends and in the offices we play "secret friend". During the week you give sweets as a present and at the end, your secret friend gives you something that you want or like, the idea is to try to find out who your secret friend is.

When I was a teenager (so many years ago :). ) the celebration in my country Ecuador was for friendship and love but with the passing of the years is only for couple love. When my daughter was a child I bought her hearts chocolates now is a teenager and she gives flowers and candies to her close friends.

I come from Vietnam and of course in my country the valentine's day is a special day for youth. They can show their love to their lover. I felt so excited when the valentine's day was coming when I was single. But now when I have a husband that day is not special day because for me all days of the year when I live with my husband are also valentine's day. It is a long time I have never received any gift in that day. My husband and I usually give each other gift in normal day instead of special day. I'm still happy because of that.

It's really nice to see so many people writing their first comments here! Is 12 June in Brazil connected to a saint of some sort? Here in Catalonia, one of the most important holidays of the year is Sant Jordi (Saint George) on 23 April ... it's much more popular than Valentine's.

Hello, I'm Gabriela. I am from Brazil.
In my country, we usually don't celebrate Valentine's day but have "boyfriend and girlfriends day" on June 12th. On that date, we can change gifts and have a romantic dinner outside, maybe someone can order delivery food and stay home drinking glasses of wine and eating.
But I'm an English teacher, so at school, we usually talk about Valentine's history and we can also propose to kids to make some letters and gifts for those they love the most.
This's my first time writing here and I'm so glad :)
