4. 'Friends' – the series

Transcript item

Jo: Hi Tina. How are you?
Tina: Oh, oh, I'm OK. I'm OK actually. Pretty horrible day actually here in Brighton. What's it like with you?
Jo: It's terrible weather here too. Yeah, tipping down.
Tina: Oh, that makes me feel better.
Jo: The right kind of weather for staying in and watching a series on TV maybe?
Tina: Definitely, definitely. So we're going to talk about Friends, aren't we?
Jo: Yeah.
Tina: We both love it. Have you got a favourite character?
Jo: Um, I don't think I've got a favourite. I couldn't say who's my favourite 'cause I like them all and I like the way that they all react with each other. But I think if there was going to be one who I'd be friends with in real life, it would be Joey, 'cause I think he's —
Tina: I like his character, but I also like him as an actor. I think he's just the same as an actor, you know, as a person, so that's why I really like him too. Have you got a favourite episode?
Jo: Um, I have got a favourite episode. It's a really … for me really funny one, but I think you have to watch it to actually really laugh at it like I do, and it's the one, it's called 'The one with the leather pants'. And it's where Ross wears, he wears …
Tina: Wait, wait. Pants? You mean underwear or trousers?
Jo: I mean American pants, so in British, for us, it's trousers. So he wears some leather trousers and he goes to his girlfriend's house and he gets into some trouble with his leather trousers. I won't say any more. You should watch the clip.
Tina: Can we actually, we might be able to link to it, mightn't we?
Jo: I hope so.
Tina: We'll have to find out.
Jo: Have you got a favourite episode? What do you find really funny or what's your favourite?
Tina: One of the episodes, if someone asks me, straight away I think of Joey when he's got a turkey – a raw turkey – on his head. Now this might be inappropriate for some people, but it just makes me laugh just thinking about it. And then, later on in the episode, Monica has the turkey on her head and she even puts a little hat on the turkey. I can't, I can't explain it, 'cause I think it's the wings are sticking up here and he's got the head in the neck, and it's just, ooh. I just keep thinking about what it would be like in the turkey. But it just really makes me giggle. But with Monica, she does this sort of shimmy with it on, and sort of the head's moving and it's got sunglasses on. Yeah, it just creases me up. It's brilliant. It's a great series, isn't it, to make you feel happy.
Jo: And you asked me who's my favourite character. What about you? Who's your favourite character? Or is there one that you think you would be friends with?
Tina: Well, I really like Joey. He's one I think I could, I'd love to go down the pub with and have a laugh with him, if I'm allowed to say that. But I actually really like the brother and sister. It's Monica, isn't it? And, um …Ross! But I suppose one sad thing, wasn't it, he … one of them just died.
Jo: Yeah.
Tina: That was pretty sad.
Jo: Matthew Perry. Yeah.
Tina: Matthew …?
Jo: Matthew Perry. He was the actor that played Chandler. So, yeah, great actor and great character as well, Chandler, I think. He was ... great sense of humour.
Tina: So who did he end up with? Can you remember?
Jo: With Monica.
Tina: Yeah, Monica. Don't forget, everyone, they need to let us know, don't they, what their favourite series is, if they can.
Jo: Yeah, or do you like Friends? If so, tell us who's your favourite character. If you've got a favourite episode. And if you don't like Friends, tell us what other series you like to watch on a rainy day, or any time.

Some of the most famous friends on TV are Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross. The series Friends began in 1994, lasted for ten seasons and is still popular today, with a whole new generation!

I watched some episodes of Friends and I really think it`s classic. But I don`t know why, but I prefer How I met your mother or Sex in the city. Theese series I adore, watched 1 million times. That’s also about friendship and about different caracters of people.

Yes, I watched Friends. I watched a TV show first time myself. The second time I watched it with my future husband. And you know I want to watch Friends again.
Yes, I am definitely a fan.
My favorite character is Phoebe. I do not know why, but I love her.
Also I like a TV show named How I met your mother. Because it is also about friendship. As well as it is such a funny story.

Of course, I watched Friends. I don't know how many times, honestly.
One of my favorite sitcoms, the second one is The Big Bang Theory.
My favorite character always was Rachel, but my friends always told me that it should be Monica because I have a lot in common with her, like cleaning everything and taking under control everything.
My favorite episode about Ross and Rachel, was when Rachel watched the graduation video from high school and realized that Ross loved her all the time.

Hi dafmaciasg,

Thanks for your voice message! You're a Monica fan! She's a great character, isn't she?

No I don't watched this sitcom, I'm not considered me as a fan, really I don't know which are characters and their lives in each episode, so I can't pick one about favourite. I remember at that time I'd watch another sitcoms "Mad About You", "Married with children" I like it those sense of humor and hilariuos stories

Hi sonyalbl,
