My last holiday

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

Tips

1. Try to make your writing interesting for the reader. To do this, you can make it personal with your own memories and experiences.

2. Use adjectives to add detail to your descriptions.

3. Write clear and simple sentences and organise your ideas in short paragraphs. Give each paragraph a different topic.

4. Use so, but, and, because and other linking words.

My last holiday was a two-days trip to Chang island, Thailand with my family. We could go there by plane, but we chose to use a bus and ferry. It took about six hours to get to a hotel, Chang island from Bangkok. Chang island is the second biggest island in Thailand, so we could not go around the island because it was too short to stay. The beach was very beautiful. My husband and I wouldn’t go to the beach in Japan because it is a little dangerous to swim and not beautiful but there are many beautiful beaches in Thailand. So we love to go to the beach a lot. We stayed a wonderful time and stayed calm very much, like laid down there. The next day when we went back Bangkok, we saw a nice Thai guy who speaks Japanese. He said that he had been to Japanese before and now he works in Ayudaya. He spoke to us a lot about Thai in Japanese. If we chose to go there by plane, we would not have seen such a nice guy. Traveling is a chance to meet new people, I think.

Hi teacher, please check out this sentence on task 3 ."Give each topic a different paragraph" The structure of the sentence looks to be wrong. Thanks, David
Hello David Thanks for telling us about what appeared to be a mistake, as errors do sometimes slip through! In this case, however, this sentence is correct. It is an imperative (a command) saying that when you write, you should write about each topic in separate paragraphs. All the best Kirk The LearnEnglish Team

in the sentences, " It has changed a lot and looks more modern",do we can say , It had changed a lot and looked more modern ?
Hello dw3222 Yes, that is grammatically correct. It would be appropriate when, for example, you are speaking about a place you lived in long ago and visited in the recent past. All the best Kirk The LearnEnglish Team

My last holiday was a seven-day tour in Jaipur in Rajasthan. I chose to go to Jaipur because of its history and beautiful forts and palaces. I went by train with my family. We arrived at 3 am in Jaipur and were so tired that we went to bed as soon as we checked into the hotel. We woke up in the early afternoon and had lunch. It was a delicious traditional dish. Then, we went sightseeing in the city. It was a hot day but we enjoyed a lot. I took photograph wearing a warrior armor. It was so heavy but I liked it. City Palace was amazing and huge. There is a central dome where the ceiling is covered with pieces of mirror. It is made up of red and white marble. It looks fabulous! After spending a few days, I fell in love with the city. I hope to visit again sometime in the future.
